Wards Island with the Fujifilm XT5
I'm headed to the islands. Not the tropical ones, but a local one here in Toronto. It was winter at the time and Wards Island has an extra, magical charm at that time of year.
Porto, Portugal, Morning POV Street Photography | Fujifilm XT5 and the Fuji 18-55mm
I don't normally shoot street photography too much in the morning, as I'm not at all a morning person, and am much more of a night owl, but travel often gives me the opportunity, and the motivation, to get up early, and explore. Come along with me for a morning stroll through Porto, Portugal, which is a beautiful and historical, sea-side town. It's similar to Lisbon, but has a much more compact and rustic feel. Perfect for exploring on foot, and a photowalk! Lisbon, Portugal Street Photography: Fujifilm XT5 + Fuji XC 15-45mm
You'll hear me mention it a bunch of times during this video, but that's because it's true - Lisbon is one of the prettiest cities that I've been to. The architecture, the setting by the ocean, the colours and vibrancy of the people and the streets - all of it combines to make for a great spot for street photography. Come along on this vlog with me as I explore, photograph, and discover this gem of a city, for the first time. 00:00 Intro 02:47 Travelling 03:42 Day 1 10:42 Day 2 12:45 Outro #fujifilm #fujifilmxt5 #lisboa #portugal #travel #streetphotography Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/ashish-zachariah/winter-jamun License code: VG65Y9F0JBLQWQCA Link me: Web: www.persad.ca Instagram: @trinitek Got any suggestions or recommendations for future videos? Hanging out with some local Street Photographers in Toronto
Toronto is a big city, and a huge region of over seven million, but we also have a cold af winter, and a relatively conservative culture here. Street Photography can also mostly be a very solitary activity. Sometimes these factors and others combine to make it difficult to form lasting community and social connections with other street photographers; despite the fact that there are potentially thousands of people that are passionate about the craft, here. Today I met up with a few of those individuals, and we discussed the early formations of a group that could function as a solid street photography community, here in Toronto. This is a quick little wrap-up video of our first in-person meeting, where we also had a photo critique of some of our images. It was a great evening of meeting some like-minded folks, and geeking-out on street photography. Hopefully, this is only the beginning, and we can help to nurture, grow, and strengthen the community here in Toronto and the surrounding area; regardless of how bad the weather can get, and how individualistic the culture can be here. Officially Photographing the Largest Parade in North America - Toronto Caribbean Carnival
I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to photograph officially for Toronto Carnival, and in this video, you get to come along with me and get a behind the scenes and immersive POV as I shoot and document the amazing Grande Parade! Some of you may know that I was born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, before I emigrated to Canada with my family, at a young age. Carnival is a huge part of the culture in Trinidad and the Caribbean, and since 1967, the massive Caribbean diaspora in Toronto has put on a months long festival in the city, which celebrates everything about the Caribbean and its people, history and culture. The festival, called Toronto Caribbean Carnival, culminates in a single day event, called the Grande Parade. This a huge parade of masqueraders and 'mas bands', with over 10 000 participants, parading down Lakeshore Blvd in the city. Over a million people line the streets to take in the incredible colours, music, and energy, as well as to eat some great Caribbean food by local vendors, and also just to relax and 'lime' with their friends and family. Tag along as we and celebrate the amazing contributions of the diverse, strong, and vibrant Caribbean community, in Toronto, and Canada as a whole! 00:00 Intro 01:24 De Stage 04:50 De Road 08:35 Wrap-up Link me: Web: www.persad.ca Instagram: @trinitek Got any suggestions or recommendations for future videos? Documenting an Epic Snowstorm | Fujifilm X-T5 | Fujinon XF 23mm f/2.0
It seems like the whole of Canada and the US is covered in snow right now, and Toronto is certainly no exception. We got hit with 4 massive snow storms in one week. Something thats really rare, even in a winter city like Toronto. I decided to put the weather sealing on my new Fujifilm X-T5 to the test, and paired it with my Fujinon 23mm f2, which is also weather sealed. Come along for a cinematic look at one of the biggest series of winter storms we've had in Toronto for many years. An X100VI Alternative? TTArtisan 27mm f 2.8 Autofocus Lens Review
If you’ve already got a Fujifilm camera and wanted a setup that’s similar to the X100VI or X100V, then this TTArtisan 27mm f 2.8 Autofocus pancake lens could be a good, and MUCH more affordable alternative. The wait times and pricing for the x100VI in-particular, are ridiculous right now, as I write this in November, 2024. I don’t want to pay more than 2k CAD, and then have to wait months for my camera to show up. I’m honestly baffled why Fujifilm would allow this to happen - whether purposely (as some coroner of the web have speculated), or not. Enter this affordable and adorable pancake lens from TTArtisan. Not only is the image quality decent, but so is the auto-focus and performance, and durability. I don’t do much gear reviews on this channel, as I honestly don’t have the need to purchase much stuff, and would rather invest that energy and time on honing my skills, and being out in the world taking pictures. That said, this little lens was worth me speaking up about and letting the world know that it’s a great alternative choice - at least until Fujifilm gets their stuff together (-; 00:00 Intro 01:20 A Cheaper Alternative 02:08 Image Quality 3:26 Size Performance and Build Quality 4:50 Conclusion Music: Psalm Trees - You Bring Me Life https://chll.to/984e89ba Psalm Trees - Seu Trio https://chll.to/13a930f2 Link me: Web: www.persad.ca Instagram: @trinitek Got any suggestions or recommendations for future videos? How to Photograph a Parade: Toronto Pride Parade 2024
I've documented the Pride Parade in Toronto for many years now. This year, it was back bigger, better, and more colourful than it's been in a few years now. The unique thing about this parade is that the majority of it takes place in the middle of the downtown of the city on some pretty tight streets. The result is a great atmosphere of thousands of people, crammed together and having an amazing time! There's nothing quite like it in the city, and its one of my favourite annual events to shoot. Toronto Analog Friends Meetup - Film Photography Group in the City
I'd heard about the film photography focused group, Toronto Analog Friends through a few other photographers in the Toronto community, for years prior to attending this meeting. I followed their instagram and discovered their links to Gallery 44, and Memento Film Lab, here in the city. This was the first in-person meeting that I attended, and I got the opportunity to meet members of the group, including the founder Jorge Rangel (@jorshhh). It was a warm and welcoming experience, and I got to see some of the awesome work that the group produces, and also nerd out on photography and photobooks lol. Why Connect with Others? Community Photowalk
*Note: This is a re-uploaded video, as the previous version had some incorrect photographer tags. Street photography for me is about people. Observing them, documenting their everyday lives, and hopefully gaining some understanding, connection, and greater empathy as well. That's one of the reasons that I think that community photowalks work so well - like minded people coming together to foster more connection, and learn and grow from each other, through our shared love for this craft of photography. Documenting a Local Pro-Palestinian March + My Opinions
Social justice and documentary photography have been huge parts of my life and photography career for some time now. In recent months I've attended several Pro-Palestinian marches and have posted some of the photos from those on my IG and my website. I've also been doing a deep-dive with regards to research into this long-standing conflict in the Middle East. Listen to some current thoughts and conclusions that I have, while checking out a selection of the photography I have been privileged to capture over the months, from these historic marches and protests. I understand that this is a very controversial topic for many people, but I believe that we need to take a closer look at, and have deeper conversations about these types of social justice issues, and I also believe that photography can be a great starting point into those conversations. 00:00 Intro 1:00 March begins 5:00 Update 5:53 Final perspectives and outro
A Local Photowalk With Friends
Photowalks with friends is a different approach to street photography than most of us usually take. Most of the time (for myself anyways) it’s a solo act. Evening at the CNE - a short film
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) has been a long tradition in Toronto for generations. It's a massive fair, with food, rides, a midway, exhibitions, concerts, and endless other things to experience. The festival was shut down for a couple of years during the pandemic, and this year it was back stronger than ever - a symbol of the resilience of the city and the people that live here. I wanted to capture what it feels like to wander around the midway of the CNE in the evening. Something that almost every Torontonian has experienced, some even going all the way back to their childhoods. Times have changed, especially after the last few years, but the magic at the 'Ex' is still the same that it always was, and I'm glad that it has survived to be experienced by the new generations.

Scarborough RT Photowalk
Join me and some new friends for an amazing and informative photowalk through the soon to be decommissioned Scarborough RT train line and stations. The transit line has been a signature in the Scarborough area of Toronto for almost 40 years now, and after years of delays, underfunding, and desperate upkeep and maintenance, it is set to be shutdown, to be replaced temporarily by a rapid bus way, and eventually by the extension of the line 2 subwa y line. The walk was part of a series of dozens of walks that occurred over that weekend, for Janeswalks - a celebration of the legendary journalist, activist, and urbanist Jane Jacobs. Shouts to @v_deux for leading the walk, along with @janeswalkto for organizing, and @ttcriders for their passion and information regarding transit in the region. Midnight Popeyes' run, feat. Thundersnow and the Ricoh GR iii | SP28
In this session of Street Poetry, I go for a midnight Popeyes’ run, during a very rare type of snowstorm here in Toronto, called ‘thundersnow’. The name refers to the combination of thunder and snow. It’s like a thunder storm, but with snow instead of rain. Scarborough Street Photography with my Ricoh
It's an epic one today! Join me as I head out to Scarborough for an appointment, and I shoot some street photography with the Ricoh GR iii along the way. Scarborough is an inner-suburb of Toronto, and it's also where I grew up. It's one of the most diverse parts of the city, and I had a great time filled with nostalgia, but also realized that things were changing in the old neighbourhood that I grew up in, and not necessarily for the better. Ahhhhh late Fall and going into the holiday season. It's getting super cold here in Toronto (It's started to snow a bit), which means a lot of photographers tend to stay-in, and keep warm by the fire. Not me though! I live in these streets!! Lol. Just a little update on the channel. Hope everybody is doing well and out in the streets creating art, and capturing stories and humanity. Evergreen Brickworks is a popular spot here in Toronto, that used to be a large quarry that supplied much of the city with the bricks that literally built many of the old buildings here. Today, it's been converted to a conservation area, park land, and special events hub. Definitely one of the best spots in the city to catch some fall colours. twentytwentynew - A Short Film
So! It's a new year and there's lots of optimism in the air, but we're still breathing it all in through the use of masks. We were never in this together. Our divisions in Toronto have been exposed by this virus; economic, race, geographic, housing... Covid revealed our skeletons, the fog is cleared. Where do we go from here? Toronto Snow Storm Street Photography | Sony A7iii + Tamron 28-75 | Dundas Street | SP19
Happy holidays and happy new year to all of you beautiful people out there in the metaverse! A couple weeks back I headed out during a snow storm here in Toronto to run some street photography. I mostly stuck around Dundas street, and passed through some of my favourite parts of the city. One again, I ended up with some cool shots and met some friendly people - and pets, along the way. Find out what the city looks and feels like during a winter storm, as the streetscapes completely transform, and the people on the street dress and behave in much different ways than they do during the warmer months. Canada's Dark Legacy | Bring Our Children Home March | Documentary Photography | SP17
So in-addition to street photography I also love to shoot Documentary, and cover events related to social justice and equality, in-particular, that resonate with myself. One such event occurred back in early June, 2021, here in Toronto. The Bring Our Children Home March was organized by local Indigenous communities, and was meant to honour the 215 children that were recently uncovered at unmarked mass graves at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. It's now early Fall here in Canada, and there has since been thousands more children added to this horrific number, with more graves being uncovered at former residential school sites, across Canada. This horrid history of genocide in Canada is one that needs to be explored further and told to the fullest possible extent. Although this means that Canadas global image may be diminished as a whole, these types of dark truths need to be brought to the surface and processed, as part of our collective conscious, not just as part of healing the past, but also recognizing the immeasurable negative consequences of these acts on our present and future. Ricoh GR III Street Photography - Welcome to Toronto | SP16
It's early Fall here in Toronto now, and restrictions continue to lift and the city continues to slowly open up again. I think that this is one of the first videos since I started my channel back in February, 2021, where you'll get a good sample of the diversity and culture that exists here in Toronto. I went out shooting with my friend Boris @btcanuck, a fellow talented street photographer, and together we ran into a wide section of Toronto people and communities - from a rock band, to a former pro football player, to Cuban-Canadians participating in a protest. It's great to see the streets coming alive again after so much quiet and lockdown. Welcome to Toronto! Be sure to check out Boris Tailors' work! @btcanuck Music courtesy of: Cloudchord, Soul Food Horns - Aqui https://chll.to/67fa0615 C Y G N - Lost Soul https://chll.to/f2fbe291 Link me: Web: www.persad.ca Instagram: @trinitek Got any suggestions or recommendations for future videos? Ricoh GR III JPEG ONLY Street Photography | Queens Quay Street Ball | SP 15
At the end of my recent Harbourfront photowalk, I ended-up (as i so often do) at a local basketball court around Queens Quay and Spadina. This is a legendary local court that often draws some of the best basketball players in the city. The ballers were out on this beautiful summer evening, and I managed to grab a couple of shots of them doing their thing. I shot with a street photography style, with my Ricoh GR iii, and it's wide 28mm lens, which is quite unusual for sports photography. There were some other local professional photographers, including one guy that shoots for the Toronto Raptors, and they were all using long zoom lenses. My style is up-close and personal, so I was literally on the court as these guys were playing at near full force. The video is a short one, but I think you'll get a sense of what it's like to be at a summer basketball court here in Toronto, as well as a sense of some of the rich basketball culture that exits here. Enjoy! Link me: Web: www.persad.ca Instagram: @trinitek Got any suggestions or recommendations for future videos? Do you have a neighbourhood in Toronto that you think I should do a photowalk in? Channel + Life Update | Trinitek Vlogs 005
Just an update on the channel, my life and a thank you to all of you lovely subscribers. I hope that your summer/winter (southern hemisphere) has been going well and that you've been able to find the time to get out in the streets and shoot. It's been a hectic year and a half for most of us, but I also hope that in breaking routine and having some time to reflect on the bigger and more important aspects of life, that we've all been reminded of what matters most, and in the context of street photography, why we love the craft so much! High Spring | A short film | Sakura Cherry Blossoms in High Park, Toronto, Canada
Oyyyy so I had to delete an older version of this video because the saturation once I uploaded to YouTube was wayyy too high. Hopefully this one is a little easier on the cornea. Every now and then I like to get off the streets and head into nature with my camera, just to refresh my creative mind by tackling a different subject matter. Of course, the simple act of being in nature also has rejuvenating effects. Combine that with the beginnings of Spring here in Toronto, and it can end up being a much needed trip into the woods. The main theme for this film is about new beginnings, especially in the context of the last year that we've all experienced. I hope that you find at least a spec of inspiration from this one, and hopefully a reminder that things always start again. Fuji X100V Street Photography | I GOT ATTACKED BY A POODLE! Street Poetry ep.10, Colours of PARKDALE
Ahhh yesss, Parkdale! One of the most colourful and diverse neighbourhoods in Toronto. One of my absolute favs for street photography. Unlike so many other areas in downtown Toronto, Parkdale has been relatively untouched by gentrification, and the building of 'condolands' everywhere. Walking these streets sometimes feels like you're in a time warp between the 70's and 90's. It's definitely rough around the edges, and maybe the centre too - which is fine in my book! Mom and pop shops still line most of the streets. People of all incomes and ethnicities go about their day. It's a place where you can get some Tibetan Momo's on one corner, a Trinidadian chicken roti on another, and some old-school Canadian diner grub down the street - all within walking distance and close enough to create the kind of fusion that makes Toronto a special place. Let's go for a photowalk in one of my favs! Fujifilm X100V Street Photography | Four Corners Ep. 2 | Spadina & Dundas
With Four Corners my goal is to capture a slice of the community and culture that exists at various major intersections in Toronto. I stand on each of the four corners of each intersection for at least five minutes, shooting whatever and whoever catches my eye. Today's episode is at the infamous Spadina and Dundas, which is the heart of Chinatown here in downtown Toronto. It's one of my favourite intersections in the city, and hopefully after checking out the episode, you'll get an idea of why that is! Fuji X100V Street Photography - Four Corners Ep 1| Yonge-Bloor
Yonge and Bloor is one of the most central intersections in Toronto, and is normally one of the busiest locations in North America, with people going to work, school, appointments, shopping, or maybe just hanging around shooting photos! For my new series, Four Corners, I've decided that this would be the perfect spot for the very first episode. I want to capture the energy, culture and community at each of the intersections that I visit. I'll be standing at each street corner for at least 5 to 10 minutes, shooting street photography. My plan for this project is to capture the diversity and characteristics of each intersection I photograph. Come along with me for episode one! Focal Point Ep.1 | Street Meditation | Sony A7 iii
It's spring here in Toronto now. Winter is finally over. It's a time for new beginnings and renewal. After over a year of a new normal, fresh air is much needed. I decided to start a new series on the channel. I call it Focal Point, and this is episode one. I think that a big part of the reason that we love street photography so much is because of its calming effects, when we allow ourselves to slow down, and simply notice. The idea for this project is mindfulness meditation focused videos, heavy on ambience and atmosphere, and light on distractions. Hopefully this series helps to clear your mind during the difficult time that the world is passing through right now. Please Enjoy. The market was bustling, as the weather was nice, it was Sunday - typically the busiest day there, and restrictions around lockdown were recently eased (for now) in the city of Toronto. Come along as I meet some interesting characters and get a unique vantage point for some street photos. King of Kensington for a day! Fujifilm X100V Street Photography - Yorkville, Toronto, Canada | Ep5
It's my first time using the Fujifilm X100V, and you get to tag along as I walk through Yorkville, which is a super bougie area here in Toronto. I'm still getting used to the X100V, but so far so good. Having used a Fujifilm camera for the past several years, the transition has been relatively painless. In this video I didn't know how to switch the viewfinder from analog to digital, so I found that I was chipping and using the rear lcd more often than normal. The analog, range-finder style viewfinder is going to take some getting used to. All-in-all though, it was a good walk on a beautiful spring-like day here in Toronto. Golden Hour Street Photography - with photo breakdown | Toronto, Canada | Ep4p2
Part two of Episode 4. At the end of this video, I give you a breakdown of my favourite photo from today's walk, and an analysis on how the shot came to be. A golden hour street photography photowalk through Koreatown and Mirvish Village here in Toronto, Canada. Take a look at the stunning colours and how the streetscapes change under these kinds of lighting conditions. Koreatown has long been the centre of South Korean life here in Toronto. The city has over 50k Korean residents. The Korean community is now much more spread out around the city - as is the case for many of Toronto's old ethnic neighbourhoods and it's relevant communities, but Koreatown continues to be an important hub for experiencing and celebrating the rich culture and cuisine of South Korea. Mirvish Village is named after a legendary local family that used to run a massive discount store in the area called Honest Ed's - which recently was razed in order to make way for condo and commercial developments. There are a lot of independent mom and pop shops here, and I wanted to show the area some love, as its been especially hit hard by the pandemic. The streets were surprisingly bustling and people were out doing their daily routines. Winter Storm Street Photography | Toronto, Canada, College Park | Ep2P2
Part two, of a two part episode. See what happens during a street photography confrontation. A winter storm blew through the streets of Toronto recently. Join me on an immersive POV street photography photo walk through the snow in the central Toronto neighbourhood of College Park. Even through the pandemic and the snow storm, there were still a handful of people out doing their thing. But, contrary to popular belief, semi-empty streets can also make for some great street photography opportunities.
