What photography and filmmaking gear I travel with in 2025
This is a video as much for curious people as it was to help me realize what I actually need for this trip. I’m heading out on a documentary trip, so I thought I’d show you what I’m packing in my camera bag. I probably spent way too much time deciding what to bring and will definitely end up not using half of it—but hey, better safe than sorry, right? Since making this video, I'm already doubting what I packed. Maybe I'll unpack and pack again. Oh well. One day I'll make some affiliate links... one day... #sony #whatsinmybag #documentary #fujifilm #blazar #cinematography #filmphotography #film
How does a $129 autofocus lens hold up?
#7artisans #streetphotography #fujifilmx Hey, hey! Once again, here we are. Got sent this lens and was pleased with the results! You never know how it's going to go with this type of things. Happy to say that this is a lens I can recommend to anyone looking for that daily-shooter, that "always on your camera" lens, that "every day carry" sort of thing if you're into the whole "EDC" world. Here's some stuff they asked me to talk about: --- Ultra-Light & Portable: A lens that’s always ready for adventure. STM Stepping Motor: Fast, smooth, and precise autofocus to ensure perfect shots every time. Versatile Performance: Whether you're shooting urban street scenes or expansive landscapes, this lens does it all. Outstanding Image Quality: Sharp details and vibrant colors that bring your photos to life. Price: $129.00 USD --- Gotta say -- it's a great little lens and it punches well above its price point, given that the images are sharp, the AF is fast, and it's a full metal build. Not even the Fujifilm XR can boast a lens this small with a metal build. Hope this review was helpful! Enjoy.

Fujifilm XT1 in 2025 | POV Street Photography
I did it again. I bought a new camera. What's old is new -- and hey, this is pretty cool. The Fujifilm XT1 is a rad camera that deserves to be looked at again and again. If anyone wants to know which film simulations I used -- you can ask in the comments. I don't exactly remember what I input and I just switched between custom 1 and 2 throughout the hour or so I was out taking pictures. The Fujifilm X-T1—what a charmer. Released back in 2014, this little retro-looking mirrorless camera is very well built and feels great in the hand. With its classic design, it looks like the kind of camera your grandpa used, except it’s packed with modern tech that rivals some of their more recent releases. It has a modest 16mp sensor but don't let that fool you. The original X-Trans sensor packs a mean punch. But let’s not pretend it’s perfect. Its autofocus is a bit, shall we say, contemplative. That said, its colours? Chef’s kiss. This sensor, in my opinion, doesn't do as much for the nostalgic film look as it's later models do (which most people disagree with) but it still has lovely photos straight out of camera. Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome -- to name a few -- the film simulations are pretty nice. So, is the X-T1 still worth it in 2025? Honestly, it depends. If you want a camera that’ll make strangers in coffee shops ask, “Whoa, is that film?”—this is your ride. If you’re into megapixel wars, maybe swipe right on something else. But if you’re down for that Fujifilm magic with a touch of nostalgia, the X-T1’s got your back. #FujifilmXT1 #StreetPhotographyVibes #ClassicLookModernFeels #FujifilmLove #ShootWithStyle Camera Gear: Fujifilm XT1 Fujifilm 35mm f2 XR DJI OSMO Pocket 3 Edited in Davinci Resolve 19. photography in 2025 is about people
Today -- man -- today was supposed to be a little return to form. First video of the new year where I take a lens out and mess around in the old way that I had back when I started posting on this channel. A camera, a lens, a neighbourhood. Boy, was that not what ended up happening. So, here's how it is: I shot with a Sony A7iv, I used the new Viltrox 40mm f2.5. Gotta say: it's a cool lens. I think it does exactly what it's supposed to do and it does it well. The photos are sharp, they're clean, they're very "normal" as far as focal lengths go. Would I recommend it? For sure. This is perfect for every day photography. I'm going to keep it in my kit. But that's not what today ended up being about. Today was about connection. And taking chances. And meeting new people. It was one of the most rewarding days I've had as a street photographer. I need more of this in my life. #viltrox #sonyalpha #streetphotography #sd1000 #canon #fujifilm #40mm #streetphotography #canada #toronto
I spent my 20s not starting -- now I'm playing catch-up
Okay, so I'm pretty fresh at making films. I've been doing video and photo work for the better part of 15 years and have spent the last 8 or 9 years doing it full time. What's changed in the past 2 or 3 years is my desire to tell stories rather than simply feel like a "camera for hire." In 2023, I filmed and directed my first (really long) short film since film school a long, long time ago. The reviews came back positively and I was immediately hooked. It's what I went to school for. It's what I'm passionate for. I should be doing this. Since then, I've made about 10 short films, co-directed one feature, and filmed and directed another feature. Both features are still in the editing phase. Like I said: I'm hooked. This video is my way of kicking off 2025 with positivity, growth, and a solid outlook. I'm going in hard this year and I'm taking anyone who wants to come along with me. But you've got to keep up. There are still so many stories to tell and I'm going to be there telling them with or without you. Anyways, I really appreciate everyone who watches my channel. While still small, it feels like things are working and coming together. #film #shortfilm #cinematography #sony #anamorphic #filmmakerslife #learningvideos #learnfilmmaking
I love using the Blazar Remus 33mm for narrative filmmaking
Static is a short film that was executed by two people. That has been the goal with these short films. Write an idea within a day, plan within a day, execute within a day. Marc and I have been friends and colleagues for a number of years now but only this past year, and really the past few months, have we really been putting our heads together to work on the type of projects that we love to make. This year, I acquired the Blazar Remus anamorphic lenses. They have really spoken to me as a filmmaker. It started with the 45mm T2, then the 85mm T2.8, and most recently the 33mm T1.8. These lenses aren't for everybody -- but they're definitely for me. I get inspired every time I attach one to my cameras. I'm glad fellow YouTubers like @cammackey is pushing so hard to get these beautiful lenses seen by more people. The approach for this film was very simple: - 1 location - 1 actor - a story that could be told on about 2 pages of screenplay Something that I have enjoyed doing while working with Marc is to not go in with a complete plan. Leaving room for writing both on the day of and inside the edit allows for something like this to be organic and really shine. This approach isn't for everyone. When it comes down to it, more planning and more preparation is better for most filmmaking. You don't want to be stuck wondering what to do next while the precious daylight shifts and messes up your next shots. However, the style that allows for films like this to ever see the light of day is 'fast and loose' and 'adapt, adapt, adapt.' Thanks for coming along. Can't wait to see you on the next one. #sony #filmmaking #shortfilm #blackandwhite #anamorphic
I shot a 90's style thriller on the Sony 18-105mm | FX30, Toronto, Canada
I love making films like this. A couple people get together with a simple idea and execute it without bias, judgement, or ego. These are so fun to make. We shot it in 90 minutes in Yorkville (Toronto) and edited 90% of it in a nearby food court. We didn't overthink the shots we chose and just dropped in what fit and they trimmed or extended here or there until it worked. Later, I brought it home and worked on the colour, sound effects and music. I decided on pushing the footage into a 90's thriller look. There's grain. There's a lot of contrast. We wanted a cooler colour palate to accentuate the bleakness of December in the city. The 2 lenses we used could not be any different from each other so they took some work to make it come together. The Sony is soft on it's long and which made it similar to the softness of the Takumar 200mm. I like that it is imperfect. I like that it's not "polished." One of my main issues with modern films are that they are so excessively "clean" looking that they take you out of the experience. Everything is shiny and crystal clear. That's not what I'm about. Writer/Actor: Marc Fortunato DP/Editor: Aaron Sambey This is a film without a clear director. Sometimes it was me. Sometimes it was Marc. With a cast and crew of two, you need to know that your limitations are your strengths. Having a solid story with a good pay-off is your best starting point. From there, the ability to "kill your darlings" is key. Knowing your script isn't precious, your locations aren't crucial, nor your equipment -- just being able to execute on a story is what you need to be focused on. Is this a perfect film? Far from it. But we started and finished it in a one day with time for coffee and lunch. Or, at least a video that I felt was thoughtful enough to maybe inspire some people. This isn't a sponsored video. This isn't me trying to sell anything. It's simply me wanting to update the world with, what I've been up to. I have had to learn the hard way, multiple times in my life, that something that is worthwhile doesn't always come easy. That is true in relationships, that is true in work, and that is true in art. Not everyone is going to feel the same way about you in relationships, or at work, and especially not when making art. I hope that this video feels important in someway. It felt important to me. If you are interested in knowing more about these films, please follow along. Liking and subscribing these videos goes along way to making it feel as worthwhile as it really is to myself and those involved in making these movies. I appreciate everyone of you. This autofocus lens is less than $200 and shoots like a Leica | TTartisan AF 75mm f2
I am not sponsored by TTartisan. I just think they're neat. Here's a link, anyway: https://ttartisan.store/en-ca/products/ttartisan-af-75mm-f2 I don't know. Sometimes a lens just works for you. And no, I wasn't paid to do this. I wasn't even given this lens to try. I found it randomly while browsing and bam -- autofocus lens by a cool brand for cheap? I had to try it. I'm always looking for neat lenses to use for video but figured my bread and butter is photo so I blended the two. This lens feels like the first time I shot with a Voigtlander. Or maybe the first time I shot with a Contax Zeiss. Or maybe even a Leica. Something about it makes the images just pop up off the screen in a way that I find hard to describe. Something about micro contrast. Something about imperfections. Something about 75mm being an atypical focal length -- I honestly do not know. I've been a fan of third-party lens companies since I was able to afford a lens beyond the kit lens that came with my old Canon 7D. It's really something to be able to try so many different options without having to always empty your bank account. Truly, I hope that they make more lenses in this lineup. I'd seriously consider grabbing a 28mm or 45mm or something like that. Thanks for stopping by!

OSMO Pocket 3 for Daily Life | Vlog
I've been meaning to do more of these types of videos rather than always stick to the photo walk format. It's refreshing to kind of just be a person rather than someone discussing every little photo-related thing I do. SO, I have a new channel. It's really important that you subscribe. It's my filmmaking channel and it will be where all of my creative narrative films will be going. It is shared with my fiance, Ashley, as well as a number of other collaborators. I'm very excited about that. Anyways, in this video, I wander around with my OSMO Pocket 3 and my Fujifilm XT5. I brought two lenses. The TTArtisans 23mm f1.4 (which is a magic lens) and the Fujifilm 55-200mm (which is the best travel lens money can buy). Thanks for all the support and see you on the next one!

Best Budget Street Photography Camera| Fuji XA1
Okay, okay, okay. I said I wasn't going to make videos like this anymore. Well, tough. I got this bad boy off of eBay for under $300, including shipping, and I was pleasantly surprised. For those of you that know, I already have an XT5 and XE4. Why do I need another Fujifilm camera? Well, to be honest, I don't. But I got it anyway and had a lot of fun. At first I was apprehensive because it didn't have a viewfinder -- but I was immediately taken in by how much joy comes with playing with a new toy once you're comfortable with how it performs. All photos were straight out of camera. You'll see that the first couple were very clean and natural and then later I adjusted the white balance to suit the style I was going for (AKA very green). Thanks for coming along, once again. You're all very cool. If you're interested in that filter... eh... it's on Amazon. I'm not an affiliate link sorta guy so I don't know. You figure it out. If you're looking for that camera -- I saw a bunch on eBay for around $300-400 but if you're patient you'll find some cheaper.
If you've never used a wireless monitor, now is your chance | Shimbol
Shimbol Website: https://www.zeroone-video.com/ Okay, okay. They knew exactly what I needed and they absolutely delivered. Do I feel like a bit of a sellout? Absolutely not. Why would I? Wouldn't you take something for free if you only had to use it and talk about it for a few minutes. If it wasn't good, I wouldn't have made a video about it. So there. Anyways, I've been busy. Way too busy to even monitor my audio with this new (cheap backup) lav mic system. This ridiculous thing came out of the box with it's gain at full. That's wild. My overall thoughts? It works without having to really do anything. Have I used it on a professional shoot yet? No! But that's going to change. It's a really, really small system that I could easily add to my kit without adding much weight. Plus, it means I can have a director's monitor now. Which is pretty rad. Thanks for being cool, everyone. Until next time.
DJI OSMO Pocket 3 is great for ranting!
Life is a funny, funny thing. I've been putting off making YT videos for a handful of months and it's not because I've always been busy. It's been a lot of things. Inspiration is a fickle and often meandering sentiment. I'm not going to say a whole lot here because I think the video does a lot of the talking. Heck, I barely put any effort into the thumbnail. Thanks for being really cool, guys.

Sony FX30 | Test Footage With My New Camera! | 35mm f1.4
Hooray! It only took over 2 years to get here -- but I got here. It's really, really cool that even this many people decided to join me on my little photo/filmmaking/youtube journey. I didn't realize that I'd have so much fun doing this type of work. Is it work? It's work -- but it's not WORK work. It's a type of work that keeps me working on stuff even when I'm not working. Does that work? (sorry) So, I got myself a new camera as both a celebration for getting to 2000 subscribers but to also help expand my filmmaking into fun new places. I've been working on a bunch of new personal film projects and want to be more efficient on set. So far, I've been a single camera workflow type of person because I feel like that strengthens the visual language -- or can strengthen the visual language rather than compromising because you want to sneak another angle in. HOWEVER, now that I have a little bit of a reliable crew it's pretty cool that I can start thinking with more angles in mind during the shots. Anyways, I really appreciate everyone that has tuned into my channel and can't wait to continue to share more and more photography and filmmaking. Antisocial Street Photography - Part 3 | K&F Bag, Rants, OSMO Pocket 3
The Bag: https://www.kentfaith.com/KF13.087AV6_waterproof-outdoor-large-capacity-camera%20backpack-15.6-inch-all-black Hello again! For whatever reason, when I do street photography like this -- the type where I actively stay away from people -- people seem to be drawn to the concept. Which, if I'm being honest (and I am), I find extremely curious. I decided to do this video as a bit more of a vlog than narration or talking head since I've had the OSMO Pocket 3 for several months and really haven't used the microphone that came with it all that much. There are several things I could say about that camera/mic combo but I may save that for another video -- let me know if you'd be interested in that. As for this bag -- there's so much to love about this type of bag if it were the type of bag for me. For example, I love the tripod holder at the front. It is one that actually feels secure and isn't flopping around the whole time. I also (as mentioned in the video) love the look of the bag. It feels like the perfect bag for the multi-use type of photographer. A mix between a laptop bag, a camera bag, a daily commuter bag, and a lightweight travel bag. Once again, please let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in this bag as a GIVEAWAY. The only caveat to that is that I'd probably want to record the giveaway for a YouTube Short. Maybe not. WHO KNOWS! All in all, I'm always happy to talk about photography -- but sometimes you may fall into a more negative headspace. And that's okay! What is important is to recognize that it is happening before you completely adopt that outlook as a personality. Link to the M2 filters: https://bit.ly/46iWS7Y I'm very new to the "sponsored ad" sort of videos and want to make sure that I'm doing it in an honest and responsible way rather than attaching my name to a product that I'm not going to use -- or more seriously, one that I'm not happy with. I'm definitely going to put these filters to use in more photography centric scenarios as they are high quality and well worth the money for what you get. I'll also certainly be using the CPL and the UV filters as general use filters. All in all, not a bad setup -- just not the one to use for video. Thanks for being such good sports. Back to street photography, for now... | Fujifilm XT5
I've been struggling with what type of creator I am in the world of YouTube. I know that I have shown to my modest (but very appreciative) audience that I am a fledgling street photographer that is on a bit of a creative journey. However, there is a very real part of me that feels the type of videos I am producing on YouTube are more of a distraction than they are something that supports my true volition. As I said, struggling. I'm extremely fortunate to work in the field that I do. It's my favourite thing to do -- photography and filmmaking. But I think some of the videos that I create are a bit of a cop-out, at times. I don't know. I may also just be going through something. An evolution or a change. Or maybe it's just gas. how I made a commercial using dollar store props
This is a bit of a change-up from my normal uploads. I've been really enjoying making videos and figured there's always room to explore the types of videos I want to create. Today was definitely one of the more fun endeavours. First and foremost, I am a professional filmmaker. That's how I make a living. It's what I love to do and I'm going to continue pursuing this as my career path indefinitely. However, sometimes you want to explore other avenues of your career path to see what types of doors open up for you. That is what this video is illustrating. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But it doesn't have to be. It just needs to catch the attention of one or two clients to take off. Special thanks to Tyler Barre. He was my co-creator on this product video. We wanted to mess around and come up with something good and I think we did just that. Also, special shoutout to Ashley King. She helped out with the set decoration as well as some of the BTS video. She has her own channel that you should definitely check out! CHEAP street photography in 2024
Man, I love cheap cameras. Especially ones that really outperform their price point. This bad boy shoots 16mp photos, has a massive zoom range, and shoots RAW! I want to be verrrryyy cleeeeaaarrr: there is nothing wrong with your iPhone for photography. Nor is there anything wrong only shooting professionally. Good gravy, did you see the size of the pimple on my face? It's like a moon colliding with a planet -- and I'm the planet! Anyways, this was a fun one because I didn't actually have a plan to do it. It just sort of started and I went with it. That's what I love street photography for -- all it takes is a little push and you're into it. Today was no different. I went really heavy on the grain with this one. Like, "strong and large" was the setting and I just left it that way. All the photos are straight out of camera and I absolutely do not remember my settings but I bet I could look them up if someone was actually interested. I started writing a script for this one and then said "to heck with it" and mostly just rambled on until something clicked. Or had some semblance of "clickage." lightweight travel and street photography equipment
Hey all! Since I had so much fun making my last "what's in my bag" video I decided I wanted to expand on that idea. I know not everyone is the same when it comes to photography. Some people bring the same gear with them every time, some people have specific gear for specific work. For me, I have a blend. When I'm working, I have cameras that I like to work with. When I'm playing, I have a whole other set of equipment. There is some crossover. It can vary from place to place! I hope you enjoy this video. I am getting more and more used to talking to the camera but I still have a long way to go. Thanks for being so supportive. Here is a list of the gear I mentioned. Some of the items are no longer available so I will include alternatives in those cases. sometimes street photography isn't street photography
Here it is. The second video I made where I'm actually talking to a camera rather than hiding behind one. And, well -- yeah, that's basically what I've been doing. YouTube is a strange, strange place. Anyhow, I've been filming documentaries and interviews for years so it felt like the right time to use a fraction of that knowledge to actually set up a camera to film myself. For a "living room" setup, I think it looks pretty good. The topic of this video is both obvious and a little ambiguous. Sure, photography is what you make of it and genre is only useful so long as it doesn't get in the way of the art you are creating. I do hope my message comes across. It came to me while I was out making the video that I should talk about how I approach photography and how that can change depending on how I'm feeling, the circumstances, or any personal plan of challenge I may come up with. Simple Street Photography Gear in 2024
It's 2024 and I have camera gear -- and -- what better way to carry your gear than to put it in a bag? Well, you're in luck because that's exactly what I did. Now, this isn't all of my gear but a select set of a few pieces that help me achieve the type of work that I do. There's definitely a difference between what you take for casual documentary photography and what you take for your professional work -- at least for me. I often end up taking one or two pieces of gear out with me on my daily photo walks which usually amounts to one camera and maybe 2 lenses. However, I wanted to showcase the kind of equipment I take on a day where I don't know specifically what I want to film. I think I'm also going to make a video about what I pack for a day of professional photography and what differences and similarities there are between them. The thing I love about having a Fujifilm camera is that they are great companion cameras to what I would call a workhorse camera like my Sony A7iv. Let me know if you're interested! I know these aren't everyone's favourite videos but I do get asked sometimes and I figured this is the best way to answer them -- as well as get more content. Also, it's my channel -- so if you are reading this, comment your favourite way to eat potatoes. Gear That Made An Appearance: Fujifilm XT5 OSMO Pocket 3 (Creator Kit) Fujifilm 18mm f2 Fujifilm 35mm f2 TTArtisan 23mm f1.4 Helios 44-2 58mm f2 Canon SD1000 Some electronic hand warmer Some cool powerbank A cleaning cloth Some batteries... As a bonus, I got a comment about how to normalize audio levels for YouTube standards and this is the first video implementing that. So, that's fun. If you're still reading this, comment your favourite type of cheese and if it would pair well with your potatoes. how photography gear can improve your mentality | Fujifilm XE4
Photography is one of those things that is both so accessible and also completely personal. I feel it in my bones. I see photos without having to use my camera at practically every moment of every day. And a lot of other people do as well. Photography is this evolving art form that also has the ability to stay grounded and at the same time keep us grounded. I didn't go out today with the intention of saying what I said today but through experiencing the hour or so it took me to take these photos -- the words just came to me. I love how one art form can be so attached to, and inspired by another. Gear Used: Fujifilm XE4 Fujifilm 27mm f2.8 (Version 2) OSMO Pocket (Original) All photos were edited in Lightroom Classic. Why I Take "Good Bad" Photos | OSMO Pocket 3, Canon SD1000, Fuji XE4
Here we go again. I've been taking 'technically' bad photos for years. On purpose. Things that go against the standard best practices including using very slow shutter speed while handheld, high ISO, and whatnot. I've gotten a little tired of how easy it is to take technically good photos with my professional cameras and am always looking for ways to photograph what it feels like to be somewhere without directly replicating what it looks like. I love it. Anyways, thanks for joining in. Gear Used: Fujifilm XE4 Fujifilm 18mm f2.0 Canon SD1000 OSMO Pocket 3 All photos edited in Lightroom. Video edited in DaVinci Resolve 18. It's not as though I don't like doing them, but sometimes other work or life can get in the way. I have several backlogged that I need to edit, but I'm excited to get them up and maybe get back into the rhythm of doing these. this small digicam shoots raw and has an awesome zoom
So, I've been busy. Like, really busy. I haven't posted a video in a few months now and people have been asking "where's poochie?" Well, here he is. I took a little time away from my work-work (I've been working on a cool documentary series) to bum around with this old camera I got for like $200. THE COOL DOCUMENTARY SERIES: https://youtu.be/dEig0ddUUkM?si=aPldl29v4XHO4Z1i Now, listen: I'm not saying that you should go out and buy this camera. It's not for everyone. In a lot of ways, you'd be better off using your phone to take pictures. However, in a lot more accurate ways, this camera rules. 28-200mm equivalent focal length? Come on. I mean, on the long end, it's f5.6 but still -- this is a really, really cool camera. I had a lot of fun with it and I was thinking I'd bring this on my next trip-trip. Like, out of province/country. It's so small and the RAW files edit really well. Okay, so -- I edited all of these photos in Lightroom Classic. The jpgs are nice but they weren't the vibe I was going for. I made up this edit myself so don't even try asking what I did. Because then I'd have to go into Lightroom and copy those settings as a preset and that takes precious time and effort. Does anybody actually read these descriptions? If so, say "lemon lemon honeydew lemon" in the comments. Gear used: OSMO Pocket - Version 1 Nikon Coolpix P7100 The video was edited in Davinci Resolve 18. I used some FilmConvert Nitrate for the footage which probably butchered it beyond belief with YouTube's compression. Ah well. Do I Even Like Street Photography? - Fujifilm XE4
This is the kind of video that I normally make -- but not all street photography days are created equally. Sometimes things are just fine and maybe uninteresting. When I make these videos, the narration is usually decided after I edit the video together. Sometimes it's cohesive and sometimes it's just a series of thoughts that I'm having while editing. Overall, it's a sentiment that I've had in my head for a little while and figured now was as good a time as any to get the thoughts out. I appreciate everyone for taking the time to watch this video. What's in my EVERY DAY TRAVEL Camera Bag? | 2023 Brevitē The Jumper
The Jumper: https://brevite.co/AaronSambey Okay, so this is the firs time I've done a video like this. Frankly, it was weird and I had to stretch my concept of what "every day carry" is and what that means to me. Sometimes it's something that fits in my pocket. Other times it's what I can fit in a little pouch. However, lately I have been looking at how much I can minimize what I carry so that I can focus on more of the adventure and less of the "options" that can overwhelm or distract from what I'm really doing out there -- Photography. So, for today's video, lots of gear was both used and seen on screen. I'm going to do my best to outline what was there: Fujifilm XE4 Fujifilm 18mm f2 Fujifilm 27mm f2.8 Fujifilm 18-55mm f2.8-4 Fujifilm 35mm f2 Fujifilm 55-200mm f3.5-4.8 Sony A7C Sigma DG DN 28-70mm f2.8 OSMO Pocket Brevitē "The Jumper" Backpack Portable Charger/Powerbank: https://amzn.to/42IRAQR This video was edited in Davinci Resolve 18 with a little FilmConvert Nitrate just for kicks. 30 Minutes In The Sun (In 3 Minutes) - Fuji XE4 Photography
Here's one of those videos where I didn't really want to say anything. Casual photography has a funny way of being both interesting & mundane at the same time. It's an entirely personal journey. I am not a street photographer... | Fujifilm X100V
... but I take street photos. Honestly, photography has been so deeply entrenched in my being for so long that it feels like everything I do is surrounded by it. And, obviously, that's not a bad thing. It is simply a thing. In case you watched this video and didn't 'get' what I was going for -- that's okay! Sometimes it takes a couple viewings to understand a piece. The point was 'mundane' and 'mediocre' photos. Take pictures to take pictures. If you know me personally, you know that what I post on YouTube is quite a fair distance away from the type of work I do professionally. However, this channel has definitely given me an opportunity to create without a bias -- simply to take photos and share them if I like. I appreciate every one of you for following along. inspiration needs motivation | Fujifilm X100 & XE4
This is one of those slower, softer, thoughtful videos. I don't always expect to take great photos but I KNOW I won't take great photos if I don't get myself out there, in front of the world, willing and available to participate. On my days off from work, it's easy to stay at home and relax. And, don't get me wrong, relaxation is absolutely important and required. However, for me, there are times where it can be more harmful than helpful. So, I make a point of getting out on those days. Practice, practice, practice. Relaxing Black And White Photography With My Fujifilm X10
Here's a quick one. I was dropping off some film downtown the other day and had my X10 with me. I didn't really have an idea of what to shoot so I started pointing my camera at buildings. It was a really misty day and the skies were blown out so I figured it was a good time to do some artsy black and whites. No narration, no story, no philosophy -- just self-explanatory black and white photography (save for the first couple of shots). Some of these photos I am going to end up printing in a coffee table book for my friends and family. I love that I'm able to do that with such a cool little camera. All photos were edited in Lightroom Classic. I didn't use any presets. I basically found a black and white setting that I liked and went with it. The Camera Designed For Instant Nostalgia - A Photo Walk
This camera is so cool. Like, it's absolutely not a professional camera and that's absolutely its strength. I always keep it in a pocket or camera bag. It's great for behind the scenes, too. All of these photos are straight out of camera. I wanted to show exactly what the photos are like out of camera because that's how I think they should be presented. Of course, if you wanted to, you could straighten the photos in post -- but that's extra work for something that is supposed to be simple. Love The Fujifilm Look? Try Out This Cheap Option - Fuji X10
Today is the first video I have made after surpassing 1000 subscribers on my modest channel. It may not seem like that big of a deal but for whatever reason, I feel like it is. In this video, I walked around with my Fuji X10 and my OSMO Pocket. It's about as basic as a set as you could possibly imagine. There wasn't really a goal except to keep exercising my casual photography skills. As many of you know, I am a professional photographer and filmmaker in the real world* and I can get pretty busy. *not saying that YouTube isn't real or good or quality, etc -- just different (for now) This video was edited in Davinci Resolve 18 with a little FilmConvert Nitrate just for kicks. you don't need a fujifilm x100v for film-like photos
Oh lord, I want to be clear that I love my Fujifilm cameras. They come with me everywhere. They're just not the be-all-end-all camera that some people have suggested they are. One of the things that bothers me about photography are the gatekeepers. People telling you things need to be one way or else it's not the right way of doing things. That's a silly line of thinking that will prohibit your growth as an artist. I brought out a non-Fuji camera because it felt right. I wanted to prove a point and I think I managed to do so in my own way. All photos were edited in Lightroom Classic using some basic editing. this might be the best b&w film simulation for fujifilm
Of course, I know, I know. It's all subjective. Heck, even my mind will change occasionally when using black and white film simulations. However, this is the one that is working for me right now and I think it'll work for you. I came up with it by accident, sort of. I had left the settings for another film simulation I was messing around with on and switched it over to Acros. I really liked the look of it but it felt like something was missing -- so, I tried shifting it around and found that Acros+R was the one that suited the look I was going for best. All photos are straight out of camera. Video was edited in Davinci Resolve 18 with FilmConvert Nitrate. I Made A Really Ugly Fujifilm Film Simulation (And I LOVE it)
Apparently I've been making these videos for almost a year. At the time of this video's release, I was at 920 subscribers. Which is pretty crazy to me! Thanks to everyone who has come along on this journey with me. It means a lot! All of these photos are jpgs straight out of camera. I shot with a custom film simulation that I sort of made up myself to feel surreal and a little off. Anyone Can Do Street Photography - And That's Awesome
Back to basics. I decided to go for a walk in an area of Toronto I haven't explored much in my years of being here. Bloorwest Village is a great area for shops, restaurants, things to see, places to walk. It's a perfect area for someone just starting out in street photography. Especially if you want to try out a longer lens. All photos are straight out of camera using one of my favourite custom film simulation unless otherwise stated. The CHEAPEST way to take unique photos!
Gosh, what a title. But it's true. It's cheap, easy, fun. It's something to do if you need a little inspiration. It's a surprisingly handy addition to your kit. And it'll only cost about $10! a love letter to fujifilm - fuji xe4
I had been writing this script several weeks ago and forgot about it until I was editing this very video. I had to go off-script a little bit to make it fit but overall my sentiments were there. Please excuse some of the "POPS" with the microphone. My regular one died and I had to dig through (the ditches) old equipment to find a suitable mic before a new one arrives. I'm incredibly fortunate to have so many people interested in my views and approach to photography. Thank you all so much! The photos from the X10 were edited in LR Classic. The photos from the XE4 are straight out of the camera using a variety of film simulations. why you should avoid buying a new camera (not the x100v)
The hype! The hype! Yes, yes. We all know that the Fuji X100V is a fantastic camera. This is obvious. I've been shooting with Fuji for just about a year now and I've loved every moment of it. For the love of photography, maybe reconsider spending a ton of money on something flashy and new and try out something older that will build your skills. All the photos were shot in RAW and edited in Lightroom. There's examples of the JPGS in this video side-by-side with the edited photos. If you're curious why/how, let me know! long exposure photography with my fuji camera (not x100v)
Lower case title, oh my gosh! Anyways, I decided that today was a day to take photos despite everything looking terrible. Grey skies, grey streets, grey's anatomy. 30 Minutes With The Fuji X10 In 3 Minutes (NOT the X100V)
Recently, there's been a big insurgence of people using older digital cameras from an age when DSLRs were pretty darn expensive. This camera is on the edge of those lower megapixel digicams and right on the cusp of mirrorless cameras starting to figure their stuff out. This is a really weird camera. Part gem. Part headache. All Fuji. Gear Used: Fuji X10 OSMO Pocket I shot all the photos in RAW + JPG and edited them in Lightroom unless otherwise stated in the video. 30 Minutes In The Rain (In 3 Minutes) - Fuji XE4 Street Photography
So, here we go again. Another video. This time it's in the rain in downtown Toronto. Now, this isn't your average rain. This is rain that's constantly on the cusp of being snow. So it's cold, cold rain. It was about 1 degree out when I filmed this video -- I used the OSMO Pocket which is not weather sealed so that made for me having to make some filming choices. Mostly it was me filming under awnings and doorways so that I didn't get my cameras too wet. I don't mind a little bit on the XE4 but overall I try to avoid standing out in a downpour. Anyways, enjoy! Gear Used: Fuji XE4 Fuji XF 55-200mm f3.5-4.8 OSMO Pocket PGYTech VND All photos are straight out of camera using one of my favourite custom film simulation unless otherwise stated. Get The Film Look With Old Digital Cameras - Canon SD1000 Is A Gem!
Okay, so maybe this isn't so much a tutorial as it is the result of me recording a voiceover too late and going a little off script. My point is that you need to try a lot of things in order to figure out what is for you or else you may end up settling or plateau-ing. Which can suck. What I like: - film photography - faux film photography - challenging myself with cheap/old gear - forcing myself to 'see' photos before I ever pick up the camera - Beast Wars If you want to see a video where I edit photos rather than just "take" them -- let me know. Your Lens Choice Only Matters If You Think It Matters - Fuji Street Photography
This is sort of a follow up to a previous video I did a few months ago where I had a bit of a divide in the comments. Point-And-Shoot Photography - The Cheap & Easy Way To Challenge Yourself - Canon SD1000
This video is a point-and-shoot street photography POV of a small area around Oakwood Avenue & St Clair Avenue West in Toronto, Canada. This is my second video using this camera. I decided on using this camera versus my Fuji because I wanted to give myself a challenge. And boy, shooting with older technology can certainly challenge your patience. I found this camera at a thrift store for $20. It came with it's original battery, charger, and 2GB SD card. Thankfully, I had an old 32GB kicking around. This gives me nearly 10,000 shots on one card! Gear used: Canon SD1000 7.1MP Camera OSMO Pocket Version 1 PGYtech Variable ND Filter All photos are JPEGs that I edited using one of my presets in Lightroom Classic. Why You Should Give Point-And-Shoot Cameras A Chance (Hint: They're Super Inexpensive)
Okay, okay. You really don't NEED anything anyone on the internet tells you. That should be obvious. But what should also be obvious is how cool this little camera is and how awesome it is that we can find such things second hand and for so little money, relatively-speaking. If you have learned anything about me by watching my videos you'll have noticed how much I enjoy putting barriers up in order to challenge my photography skills. Grabbing a camera like this, though a novelty, really excites the ever-learning nature I strive to continue to reach. Does The Fuji XC 35mm f2 Hold Up? - POV Toronto Street Photography
When you're into photography you may find yourself wanting to experiment with every focal length known to cameras. Or, maybe you'll find yourself becoming obsessed with just one focal length. Or, if you're like me, it's, annoyingly, both. I love the 35mm focal length both on full frame and APS-C. There's a certain character about both the field of view as well as the way subjects are rendered. I decided to get one for my Fuji after having this camera for 6 months. It was well worth the wait. Fuji XE1 in 2022 - Should You Buy A 10 Year Old Fuji Camera? - A Non-Scientific Review
Oh boy. I've received a lot of flak from some Fuji forums when I say the XE1 is not for me. Especially when I say I prefer the sensor on the XE4. I'm not saying I don't like the camera. Toronto Street Photography - Fuji XE4 - Using Your Camera To Make Friends!
Today's video was supposed to be one of those photo challenges I've seen on the internet but instead it was simple, fun, and casual. Just the way I like these videos! Gear used: Fuji XE4 XF 27mm f2.8 K&F Variable ND Filter I edited the video in Davinci Resolve 17 and the photos are straight-out-of-camera JPEGS I shot with a custom film simulation. The video was filmed with the Eterna film simulation with some minor tweaks and corrections for colour in Resolve. Music was licensed and sourced through Soundstripe. Vintage Lens Street Photography On A Fuji XE4 - Super Takumar 35mm f2
I decided to change up my lens choice for this photo walk and use one of my favourite pieces of glass. This bad boy has been used on many videos but not so often in photography. I love the way it renders the image. The softness is akin to anamorphic lenses. It is also relatively small and lightweight which makes it great for walking around. Photo Walk - North Vancouver - Fuji XE4 + 18mm f2 - Sony A7C + Tamron 70-300mm
My final video (I think) from my trip to British Columbia in April. This was one of my favourite areas I had been. It was raining only under the trees. A magical forest made just for me. Video Portrait Emily - Street Photography - Sony A7C + Sigma 28-70 - Fuji XE4 + 27mm
This is the second video in my video portrait series where I spend time with a model in a small area and do some casual photography and video. Emily and I spent a couple hours in Kensington Market in Toronto on a sunny afternoon. Emily is an absolute firecracker. We got along instantly and we both really enjoyed the experience. Most of the photos were taken with the Fuji XE4 save for a couple with the Sony. Let me know if you can tell which are which. Street Photography As A Tourist In British Columbia - Fuji XE4 + 18/27mm - POV Photography
This is my fourth video from my trip to British Columbia in April. It's really nice to be able to see places I've only ever heard of and accept the fact that I'm not discovering some place new for myself. It's all about how you view your experiences that allow you to find enjoyment in them. You don't have to be the first one to the top of a mountain for it to mean something. And that means something. All photos in this video were taken with the Fuji XE4 and the 18mm f2 or the 27mm f2.8. None of the photos in this video were edited and are all straight out of camera jpegs. If you're interested in which simulation I used for the photos please let me know in the comments. Gear used: Fuji XE4 Fuji XF 18mm f2 Fuji XF 27mm f2.8 DJI OSMO Pocket PGYtech VND Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 Video was edited in Davinci Resolve 17 with FilmConvert Nitrate. Video Portrait - Selina - Fuji XE4 - 27mm f2.8 - POV Portrait Photography
This is my first attempt at creating a video portrait in the style of my photo walk videos. The idea isn't new but it really felt like the direction I should take, at least, part of my videos. Selina was the first person to reach out to me to do one of these videos and she was a pleasure to work with. Her Instagram: @selportfolio For my next video, I think I'm going to change up which video camera I use. The OSMO is a blast to use because it is quick and dirty but I want to push a little harder into the video areas of these videos, so I'll likely bring out my Sony or something similar. I stuck to one film simulation on my Fuji camera for this video and did some minor highlight/shadow/saturation adjustments in post. Fuji XE4 + 18mm f2 - POV Street Photography - Does Location Matter For Street & Casual Photography?
I choose a location at random, mostly. Sometimes these walks are a product of having to go to a location for something else and then deciding to walk around and take photos. Others are simply choosing a spot on a map and going with the flow. Regardless, I think there's good reason to take your camera anywhere you go: you never know what you'll find. POV Photography - Fuji XE4 + 18mm f2 - Why You Should Revisit Places You've Photographed Before
Going back to the same location later in the day for a different experience. This is my 12th video of this type in a month and I'm proud to say that I'm really enjoying the experience. I'm going to try and implement this line of thinking further down the line by revisiting old places. The gallery my partner has two pieces in: https://www.artofemotionsgallery.com/ The exhibition is called "She Is" and it runs from April 21st to May 6th 2022. This video was shot with a mixture of Fuji recipes that I created myself. If you're curious about one of the photos, just ask in the comments. POV Photo Walk - Fuji XE4 + Fuji 18mm f2 - Your Lens Choice Doesn't Matter (Most Of The Time)
I went for a walk around the lake in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. I've been making videos like these for about a month and I'm trying to figure out what I want the channel to be. Today was an examination on Gear Used: Fuji XE4 Fuji XF 18mm f2 OSMO Pocket V1 PGYTech VND DJI Mini 2 Freewell ND Filters Most of this shoot, except for the black and white photo, was shot on a film simulation I made myself. Toronto Street Photography - Fuji XE4 + 27mm f2.8 - Street Photography Obstacles & (Some) Solutions
This is a photowalk near my home in Toronto, Canada. It’s an industrial park that has a lot of character mixed in with a lot of muted tones and grit. While not my favourite set of photos on one of these walks there are certain areas that I would love to come back to at a different time of day. Namely, the bakery at nighttime. urban exploring at a resort?
This is my 8th video after a short break where I took a week long vacation with my partner. We ended up walking to some neighbouring resorts only to discover that they were completely devoid of other people. It was surreal. As for my camera settings, you’re going to have to ask my specifically in the comments. I switched between several custom film simulations on the trip and even made one that I fell in love with while I was there. relaxing and chill photography in Cuba
This is my 7th video after a short break where I took a week long vacation with my partner. We decided on Cuba because we fell in love with the place back in June of 2019. Fuji XE4 + Fuji XC 50-230mm - Mistakes I Make When Doing Street Photography
This video is a little bit different than my last few videos for a few reasons. The most obvious one is that I have now included voiceover and with that comes a few other differences. Mostly mistakes and accountability. This was filmed in a small area around Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue in Toronto, Canada. This is my fifth video of this type. I decided on using a a telephoto lens for reasons I'm still not sure about. Maybe because it was a new purchase and I wanted to try it out. Maybe because we all make mistakes and it's up to us to own them.
