In this video I put the Pyxis through some initial testing to get a feel for this new box-style cinema camera and how it compares to my RED Komodo and LUMIX cameras. I wanted to see how these lenses looked on my S5 iiX and I was really blown away by how great they pair together! Shot on the 32mm and 55mm DZOFILM Pavo 2x anamorphic lenses and the LUMIX S5 iiX whilst out on a walk in North Wales. These lenses are S35 only but the S5 iiX has a huge range of shooting formats, including S35 4:3 - the frame was then cropped a little in post to give a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Remember these cameras have a S35 mode allowing you to use S35 lenses and get incredible results (with faster sensor read out speed). Shot in North Wales. I've been testing out the SIRUI 1.25x anamorphic adapter and it's better than I thought it would be - I've tested it on the Night Walker cine lenses and also with the 1.6x SIRUI Saturn Anamorphic lens, to transform it in to a 2x anamorphic! I've been getting a tonne of comments about my colour grading process so it's about time I give you a tutorial on my film emulation workflow in DaVinci Resolve. Hanging out in the park and playing ping pong with the SIRUI Night Walker cine lenses and the RED Komodo 6k. These Super 35 lenses come in 24, 35 and 55mm and are all rated at T1.2 which makes them great for low light situations. Footage capture in 6K RED RAW LQ at 25fps and graded in DaVinci Resolve. They remind me a little of my Vespids but aren't quite as sharp or optically controlled as those - although these Night Walkers are much smaller and cheaper (you can get the set for the cost of a single Vespid lens) so they offer great value for money. Similar to the Vespids they have a nice, smooth organic feel to them rather than something that is overly clinical or sharp. I'm having fun with them (isn't that all that matters?!) and will be doing some more shooting / testing for my upcoming review vid! First test footage with the full frame SIRUI Saturn 35mm 1.6x anamorphic T2.9 carbon fibre lens shot on the Panasonic LUMIX S5 iiX, using a VND and some diopters for the close up shots. I've been having a lot of fun testing out the upcoming Blazar Nero 1.5x anamorphic adapter. Check out the full review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwy3Wn_SRjs Follow me on IG: https://www.instagram.com/prossered/ This sample footage was shot using the Helios 58mm as the taking lens combined with the Canon 0.71x focal reducer on the RED Komodo 6k (& an H&Y VND). All footage shot in RED RAW LQ. Please note that this was shot using an early pre-production model of the Nero adapter with a vintage Helios lens and a canon 0.71x focal reducer - in my testing I found that the focal reducer did accentuate chromatic aberration quite a bit, however stopping down the Helios to around f/4 cleaned things up a lot. Generally the CA without the focal reducer is pretty controlled, even more if using modern glass for the taking lens - but I'll cover this in my review. I've also tested a more recent pre-production model of the adapter and the flaring is greatly reduced from what you see here, although I did quite enjoy the flaring in this footage - it was quite intense, so I think it's probably a good thing they've tuned it down a bit. Overall I'm really excited to show more footage from this adapter - and will have a full review dropping in the next week, shot on both the RED Komodo and LUMIX S1. Working with the RED Komodo 6K, 0.71x Canon focal reducer I was able to capture some really fun images that pushed me out of my usual shooting style. We got snow (!) so we went for a walk and I thought I'd try out my old Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 using an Urth FD to L mount adapter that I recently picked up! I've never used this lens for video work because it sits on my old film camera, but it's impressively sharp. It definitely lacks the character of my other vintage lenses but this would be a solid option if you wanted a cheap 50mm prime with manual focus / aperture. I'd recommend getting it cine modded if you were going to use it full time for professional work as the focus ring is a little small and fiddly. #dzofilm sent me their new 21mm and 40mm Vespid Primes to test out, so I set myself the challenge of shooting a short doc with just these two focal lengths (okay I used the 90mm macro too!). Shot on the RED Komodo 6K in RED RAW LQ, and graded in FCPX using in built colour tools and FilmConvert for grain and a bit of film emulation - leaning into an organic golden-green look. This piece was shot across two afternoons in August 2022 - and very much testing out my Komodo setup as a solo operator / run-and-gun shooter. Shot in the summer and autumn of 2021 on the Panasonic EVA1 & DZO Film Vespid Primes. British sculptor John Maine looks back at the creation of his large scale public installation, Arena, which can be found on the south bank London. Arena consists of a broken circle of concrete blocks carved in situ and set at irregular angles. It was commissioned by the Hayward Gallery / Southbank Centre and created by John Maine RA in 1983-88. This piece was shot over several days in London and at John's studio.

In this Davinci Resolve tutorial I show you a simple method for colour grading RED Komodo footage. This method uses a layer mixer to add your "look" and to protect and blend skin tones. This method allows you to easily swap out your colour grade for a different look by changing just a single node. The tutorial shows a workflow for grading footage shot on a RED Komodo in 6K RAW at 40 fps. This projects works in the IPP2 colour pipeline, in RED Wide Gamut and Log3G10. This process can be used to grade any footage, so you don't need to be working RAW. I finally got my Red Komodo - this is just another one of those random sample footage vids shot at home, whilst I wait for the rest of my Komodo accessories to arrive. Shot with the Canon x0.71 speed booster, DZOFilm 50mm Vespid prime, 1/8th Black Pro Mist & RED Outrigger handle. This is a mix of 4K and 6K R3D RAW and the inside shots at the end are shot in Pro Res 422 to see how different this handles. First time grading RED footage in Resolve, still a lot to learn. As I'm still waiting for my monitor to arrive, I had to shoot this on the tiny Komodo screen which isn't as bad as a I thought. Can art save lives? Art by Post was a landmark project by Southbank Centre - designed to tackle loneliness and social isolation brought about by the pandemic. Art by Post booklets were available for any individual or organisation seeking creative resources, including care-givers, those living with dementia or long-term health conditions, as well as practitioners and professionals working in social and healthcare settings. Freelance commission for the UK Labour Party, telling the heartbreaking story of Charlie and her struggle to navigate a punishing benefits system after the tragic loss of her partner.

Excerpt from video installation. Commissioned for: 'Rest & its discontents' - an exhibition currently on at the Mile End Art Pavilion until the end of October (http://hubbubresearch.org/event/rest-discontents/) The short film uses material gathered from individuals participating in Descriptive Experience Sampling (DES) to generate short vignettes which explore and re-interpret their experiences. DES is a method pioneered by US psychologist Russell Hurlburt which aims to document the nature and quality of inner experiences. Participants are given a beeper that sounds randomly throughout the day and at the sound of the beep they must log their exact experience. Follow up interviews produce "beep summaries" which provide colourful and detailed accounts of seemingly mundane experiences.

A rough, ungraded time-lime lapse of clouds and a thunder storm. Shot high up, late evening as the sun set looking down at Lake Como in Italy, near the town of Menaggio. The clouds forming in the distance were lit by sporadic eruptions of lightening - most of which are lost in this time-lapse, sped up 4000 times from footage shot at 25fps.

Bought myself a GH4 for Christmas and whilst staying at my parents decided to take it out on a walk with my mum. Loving the quality of the footage coming out of it, perhaps a little noisy but hopefully can be mitigated in post. Mainly testing out the 96fps setting because everything looks better in slow motion! Shot on the 12-35 Panasonic lens with Cinelike D setting. Graded with Impulz, Look forward to testing the camera out properly when I'm back in London.
