Forward on another 7 years, I moved from Vegas to Final Cut Pro. I then reluctantly bought another Neat license. Gulp. It's annoying having to buy digital products- I get it. As creators we prefer to buy the latest flashy drone! But these 'no nonsense' products can give us value in the long run. I have never spoken to the Neat team and am not sharing affiliate links. With Flicker Free, the situation is slightly different. A few months ago I contacted Digital Anarchy and requested to test the plugin as part of a Youtube video. I have a good relationship with the company- they have not yet slapped me in the face! But Digital Anarchy do not know about the mention in today's video. And I am not leaving affiliate links. As I mention in the video, you can also try filming at 25 fps. Depending where you live and the bulb frequency, that may take away the need for Flicker Free. Neither Neat or Flicker Free are perfect, no plugins are. They slow rendering down considerably. I only apply them right at the end of my edit. In this video I noticed some slight skin smoothing using Flicker Free, particularly in the parody scene with Matt talking to the camera as a YouTuber. But I also used it to remove flicker from the cathedral in the background on my own vlog shots. And the skin smoothing wasn't too bad. It probably makes me look better, a bit like a black mist filter. I now have a 'teen girl skin' mode. Likewise, Neat can make your shots sometimes look slightly cartoony. But you do have options to fine tune and select different areas. Overall I would recommend buying Neat Noise Reduction first. If the flicker problem is a noticeable issue for you, pick up Flicker Free too. Note- Flicker Free can also be very useful for drone hyperlapses or time-lapses when the lighting changes. I used it on my hyperlapse at 0.43 secs on my previous Mini 4 Pro Review in Scotland.

Note- you can use your phone's personal hotspot to connect the RC or RC2 for authorisation zones. I tried this tonight in Manchester. However, every time I switched the RC2 on I had to go through the hotspot connection process again. I know, it's unimaginable there might be a bug with a released DJI product. I think the colour distinction is good on the Mini 4 Pro. But on some shots there does seem to be a bit too much magenta. And a few people have also commented on this. So I'm glad I'm not quite yet fully loosing my mind seeing things. It can be corrected in post though. 1. Use a sturdy tripod with a smooth fluid head. You can increase the stability of the tripod by attaching a bag if there is a hook in the middle. 2. Practice maintaining a smooth motion panning and tilting. Preparation is key, so practice at home. I like to set my tripod tension in the middle, and apply light pressure to the handle. Every shoot then test the tension before the animals appear. 3. Try to anticipate the direction where the animal will move. They are often territorial and there can be clues in the environment where they have walked before. 4. Generally you want at least up to a 300mm zoom on a full frame. Unless you are specifically setting up wide angle shots. 5. Use shutter speed double your frame rate. For example 60fps, shutter speed 1/120. I like to shoot 60fps if an animal is walking, to slow it down after. Bonus tip- you don't HAVE to move the tripod pan or tilt. If the animal is not moving, often you can capture the best tips by just keeping still and waiting for interesting facial expressions. Good luck. Follow for more tips, tutorials and gear reviews.
