It's safe to say this solo trip has once again changed my perspective as a photographer. This wasn't the first and will for sure not be the last long solo road trip with just me and my camera. One thing I learned on this trip was to only shoot with one camera, one fixed lens, and let that help drive my creative vision for this moment. It was just me, my French bull dog taj and the Fuji x100vi. Ive been in love with fuji and the x100 series for over 5 years now and one thing that never gets old is the style/color/creative freedom this camera gives me. I implore you to take the time. find a free moment to just your mind and your camera to create. You will honestly never be the same again. This trip was a very emotional one. honestly I couldn't even bring myself to speak the words but this was the trip I was dropping my dog off with my parents before moving to Australia. After having cancer we just couldn't think of forcing the flight on her. So for me this trip was about two best friends making memories that will last a life time and loving see you soon. I miss you! Sadness and Chaos has erupted in my old home. Fires have taken over the beautiful city of Los Angeles. Our old home where my wife and I got married and found out we were having our baby girl has been destroyed in this fire. As I sit in Australia which feels like a million miles away I can't help but feel lost as we get message after message from friends and family that they lost everything. Nothing can quite prepare you for something like this. But my prayer is that the strength of the people of LA will come together and support one another with love and grace. Today our one and only goal is to Create more than we consume. I head out on a 12 hour mission/adventure to try. and break to cycle of consuming other peoples lives and content. I get up at 4:30 am grab my surf and camera gear and hit the road heading west towards TOFINO in British Columbia. My cameras of choice for the day are the mavic air 3 and my Canon 5D Mark iv. In this day and age it can be very easy to sit and complain of others and the lives they are living. We can get caught starring at our phones watching others live their lives. Spent a super fun night out with the FujiFilm x100v shooting some night street photography. I felt like with the saturated colors and dark tones it allowed me to slow my shutter way down and really get creative. Treating the streets almost like a canvas and working to create some abstract but grounded photography. I normally use my Ricoh Gr iii when trying slow shutter because of the in body stabilization, but found the Fuji to excel on this evening. I also had a ton of fun trying to tell a bit more of a story in this video with a mixture of artlist and my own footage. Please let me know in the comments below if you like this style of video. Ricoh GR 3 after 4 years this camera is still the absolute king of street photography! Many cameras like the Leicas and Fuji x100v are incredible cameras, but there is still one that just cant be beat. A deep dive into the greatest city for street photography with my favorite street camera the Ricoh GR iii. Where every corner has a different story unfolding. Got out for a street photography session in Downtown LA on Easter weekend. Was a beautiful evening session with the fujifilm x100v using my portra 400 film recipe. All shots are SOOC. I went out this night with three objectives. although I didnt hit any shots that blew me away I did work hard to fill the frame and try and find a couple of unique angles. Venice beach!! oh how I love shooting Street Photography here. This place is a piece of art! From the city, to the people, to the fashion and everything in between. There is never a dull day while cruising around Venice. Honestly i probably miss more photographs than I take while out shooting street photography here. Either way this was just a super fun day of cruising around the boardwalk and the skatepark. Andy Anderson and Leandre Sanders have to be two of the best skaters at the Venice skatepark right now, purely on their ability to draw some of the most unique lines possible. Honestly Andy has to be one of the best technical skaters in the world right now and the fact you can cruise down to Venice Beach any given day, and have an opportunity to watch these two is mind blowing. Now that is how you start a year! Massive west north west swell hits California the first week on 2023. Lots of destruction in Northern California and especially in my home town of Santa Cruz, but later this day that same swell arrived in southern California. Most everywhere was too big, but Sandspit came to life for the last few hours of the day! A fun and wild time shooting some street photography the week of Christmas on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. This is the first time ever visiting let alone shooting photos on these streets. I thought what better time than the chaos of Christmas. From the Cars, to the people, to the fashion.. I loved a new spin on what street photography could be. I took out the Fuji x100v for my full walk on Saturday, and had so much fun that I went back on Sunday with my Ricoh Gr 3 to try and get some more creative photos. I felt like I locked into a few more shots on Sunday. I am not sure if that is because I was a little more familiar with the area, or if I felt more comfortable to shoot photos with my Ricoh as it freed me up a bit to shoot more my style of photography Pretty sure Madonna's car drove past me and I didnt know until I got home to see the license plate. I came across a lot of kind people on the street. I am actually looking to go back in the new year and see what photographing the area is like on a "normal day". Halloween 2022 did not disappoint. I went out to find out if it is the Biggest cheat night in street photography of the year. I had my two favorite street photography cameras with me - Fujifilm X100v and the Ricoh GR3. I love putting these two cameras up against each other! I have to say for this night The fuji X 100v was by far my go to, it for the first time felt more comfortable in what I was trying to create. Venice Beach Skatepark threw down a super session just now, with the super talented Isiah Hilt, Skategoat, Vincent Luevanos, and the young blood of California Jake Familton. If I am ever trying to get inspired to shoot photos or tap back into my past life I head down to the Venice Beach skatepark. The vibe is always on during the weekend. People are literally putting on a clinic of how to skate a skatepark, and the best part is its free and in one of the most beautiful locations. Cars of the PCH is a series ive been working on for a few months now. On any given day you will see the most exotic and beautiful vehicles driving up and down the PCH "Pacific Coast Highway". Cars from every era and and every style. From Porsche, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Maserati, Lamborghini, you name it, and that vehicle is on this highway. Sundays have become my favorite day to explore the PCH. I will start in Santa Monica and work my way up to the top of Malibu. Hurricane Frank just hit Malibu and sent a full day of pumping surf back to LA. After being let down by the last Code Red 2 Swell. Frank showed up with some of the best surf to hit California. Hurricane season is in full effect and with the US open going strong this week Hurricane Frank couldn't have showed up at a better time. Started seeing clips roll in, seems like Newport and the wedge also go a solid session this morning. I appreciated all the love and comments from my last code red video, you all had some good/hilarious comments and kept me busy all week. Code Red 2 Swell sends 7 Days of super fun surf to Malibu California. Spent a full weeks surfing and shooting photos of the Code Red 2 swell. After watching how the swell tore through the south pacific nailing Tahiti and Hawaii. Every Californian was waiting with anticipation for this run of waves. On arrival it was much smaller than originally forecasted, but I have to say from sun up to sun down for 7 days straight we had good surf. Malibu was running from the top of the point to the pier on Tuesday with every day around it producing super fun surf. Its been 10 years since the first Code Red swell hit and I have my fingers crossed we link into a good late season here in California. I had a blast getting my drone, gopro and 70-200mm Canon out shooting this swell. It was fun to try and produce some different angles and see if I could bring a fresh look to the swell. Cant wait to get back in the water and shoot the next one. Thanks for watching. Night street photography with my favorite camera the Fujifilm x100v in Hollywood. Pouring rain, bright lights, and some very fun street photography conditions in LosAngeles. The city reflections turned on bright for me this night. The Fujifilm x100v shined, honestly this camera just gets better and better in my eyes. Night photography is something I have been really enjoying as of late. It helps train the eye to see things in such a different way. And add pouring rain to this equation and you have some of the best street photography conditions you could ask for. Chasing the best Street Photography images at Sunrise with the Fujifilm X100v in Venice Beach. Crisp winter morning at sunrise with the Fuji camera. The Fujifilm X100v shoots the most beautiful images when the lighting is like this. The streets were empty so I spent a lot of time shooting shadows, structures and geometry. What a year 2020 has been, Here is my best of reel with the DJI Mavic Air 2. 4k Cinematic drone video of one of my favorite places in the world British Columbia and the Pacific North West. Over the last year I have fallen in love with my new Mavic Air 2. The 4k footage this tiny drone is able to capture constantly blows my mind. The camera and technology they have poured into this Drone is on another level. Today we are jumping into the streets of Vancouver with our Ricoh GR iii to shoot some pov Street Photography. I have had a lot of people asking me where and how I shoot my black and white street photos, so I wanted to start a new pov series of my process of shooting in the streets, how I move around and interact with others. Hopefully this will help other aspiring photographers to get out and fall in love with street photography like I did. Honestly, I think I just found the best day trips from Vancouver – The Sunshine Coast!! After moving to Vancouver just over a year ago, I finally snuck in my first trip to the Sunshine Coast of B.C. It originally started as a soccer trip for my girlfriend who coaches an awesome girls' soccer club in Vancouver, but ended up being less about the game for me and more about exploring one of British Columbia's best coastlines. As the Sunshine Coast is still technically attached to the mainland, you will need to hop on a quick 45-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay just 20 min from downtown Vancouver. We lucked out and had one of the most beautiful days to be on board the ferry, Watching the sunrise over the mountains and traveling through all the beautiful islands along the coast. After a quick trip you land in Langdale which is a small but cool little landing zone. We quickly hopped in the car and headed down to Gibson to start the adventure. One of the things about the sunshine coast that stood out to me the most, is how much time you spend driving either through nature or along the pristine pacific north west coastline. As soon as we came across Flume Creek and then Davis Bay, we knew we were in the right place. We spent a few hours running up and down the beaches with Taj our Frenchie just soaking up the sunshine. And the best part about this beach is across the street had the best little restaurant with an amazing outdoor patio called the Wobbly Canoe. I'd say this was one of the highlights of the day. After lunch I dropped Kim off to prep the girls for their soccer game and headed up to Smugglers Cover on a little solo mission with the pup. After looking at a map and seeing this place from google earth I knew I had to go explore get my Mavic air 2 in the air and see this beauty from above. The inlet here is incredible, with homes along the water that all have their own docks that lead out to the ocean blew my mind. “note to self, rent an airbnb along this section of the coast” After my quick trip up to Smugglers Bay I drove back down to watch the girls kick butt and take their 5th win of the season, grabbed Kim and headed down to the beach to catch the sunset. We dropped down into the Snickett Park area for the last part of the day which didn’t disappoint. We sat, talked story, and reminded ourselves just how lucky we are to still be able to take advantage of these small moments in time. Sunshine Coast we will be back! But next time for much longer than a day. But honestly if you’ve got just a single day, I would say the Sunshine Coast is one of the best single day trips you can take from Vancouver. The pacific north west never seems to not surprise you. Here is a series of Black and White street photography from 2020 with my Ricoh gr iii. Above is a slide show of my favorite shots of Vancouver during 2020, there is something about black and white photography that sits in a timeless world. The eye can not get distracted by the colors we see and can really settle into what the image provokes. I truly believe the Ricoh gr iii is the best street camera on the market. For everyday use, it will always be with you allowing you into places and scenes you would have never been or captured without it. Vancouver is one of the most interesting cities to shoot. The people and the city allows for photography to shine on so many levels from the beauty to the grit.
