I’ve been using the X-E4 for a couple of weeks shooting around my local streets and here's a look at how I feel about Fuji's latest camera. This isn’t an in-depth review of all the camera's details and features or a technical break down of image quality or a comparison with other cameras. Instead, it’s an overview of how the X-E4 feels to shoot with and what it brings as an update to the X-E3 or alternative to the X-Pro 3 UPDATE: The X-E4 does actually shoot F-Log in video. The model I received was a pre-production version lent to me by Fuji for review and F Log wasn't in the camera's menus. However, after some queried it, I dug through the manual and indeed, it will shoot F-Log. Apologies for the error. I love colourful sunrises and sunsets with beautiful warm golden light illuminating the landscape, but when you’ve dragged yourself out of bed in the dark and up a mountain and the weather doesn’t give you what you want, there’s still the possibility to capture stark moody landscapes. I headed up to Passo Giau in the Dolomites with the intention of shooting first light but very quickly realised that wasn’t going to be an option with the low cloud and flat light. In this video I take you through the process of looking at the landscape to identify an interesting image in overcast conditions and then how I processed it in Lightroom to make the most of the mood of the scene. I'm a big fan of telephotos for landscapes and I get asked a lot which Fuji telephoto I recommend. I use the 55-200mm because I appreciate it's size and portability, but my friend prefers the 50-140mm, so we decided to do a side-by-side comparison. This is by no means a complete or technical comparison of image quality. We didn't use MTF charts, or shoot at different apertures, instead we chose an aperture (f11) that we would most commonly use for landscape shots and then compared the lenses in the way we would shoot with them in the field. Last month I spent a week or so in the snowy Dolomites mountains and put together this video about shooting an image from capturing the scene to my complete image editing workflow. We weren’t that lucky with the conditions, either having too much wind and driving snow, or completely clear skies with no drama, but landscape photography is usually about taking the scene as you find it and working out how best to shoot and edit a scene to fit the mood of a place. In the editing part of this video I did one image in Adobe Lightroom and the other in Capture One, as I’m getting more and more questions about using Capture One. I got the chance to spend two weeks in shooting in the Dolomites with the Fujifilm GFX 50R earlier this month, and here's a review I put together. Like all my reviews it's in no way technical or focused on specs or comparisons, but instead based on my experiences shooting with the camera and working with it in the field. I've been interested in the Fuji XF8-16mm f2.8 since I first saw it on the Fuji road map, so I was excited to have the chance to borrow the lens and see how it performed as a possible replacement for the XF10-24mm f4, my current wide angle zoom. UPDATE: I've said in the video that the lens won't take filters, but it's been pointed out to me by a couple of people that this isn't true. I was in Uttakleiv beach in Norway earlier this year and made this video about how I make an image, from shooting on location to my complete image editing workflow. EDIT: At around 9,50 I say I'm going to increase Saturation and then push up the Sharpening slider. Sorry about that, don't know what was going on in my head there, but I do of course mean to increase the saturation a little to bring out the reds on the bottom of the pool. What's amazing is that I really thought I could see them getting more red....I should get my eyes checked! Thanks to the people who pointed it out, and apologies for any confusion. Before I got hold of the DJI Mavic back in late January I’d never flown a drone before. I was also completely new to shooting video and bought the Mavic because I wanted to start putting together short films alongside my landscape photography. I spent a week with the Fujifilm GFX 50S medium format putting it through it's paces shooting landscapes in Tuscany and Cinque Terre, Italy. This isn't meant to be an in-depth review, I only had a short time with the camera and didn't have the opportunity to really dive into all it's capabilities, but I wanted to give it a field test to see how it felt to use while out shooting landscapes, as well as the practicality of travelling with such a large system. I also wanted to have a good look at the RAW files, particularly in terms of dynamic range, detail and noise. I've had the Mavic Pro for about 3 months now and I'm still learning how to get the best out of it. The sensitive default gimbal settings in particular make it hard to get cinematic footage, and the camera needs a little tweaking to get the most out of it. This is just a very short film I cut together with drone footage (from the DJI Mavic Pro) when I was out shooting a street photography video for Fuji X Passion. This was just after I'd bought the drone and was still learning how to fly it and get the best out of the settings. There's some moiré on the rooftops due to the sharpening settings not being low enough (I now have it down at -3) I'll get back to producing proper tutorials for the channel over the next week or so, including what I've found to be the best settings for the Mavic Pro. My second video on getting used to the DJI Mavic Pro. A couple of people asked about the still image quality in the comments for my last video, so here's a look at the RAW files on the Mavic. I'm still learning how to fly a drone, and still trying to work out the best settings. There are halos around rocks on some of the clips which are present on the ungraded files out of the camera, so I'm thinking that I need to reduce the default sharpening and contrast settings still further. Here’s my second attempt at cutting together a video…This is a quick film I made when I went to the west coast of Portugal and attempted to shoot the Milky Way with the new Fuji X-T2. Apologies for the truly awful sound on location, I’ve since bought a Røde microphone so the next video will be better. Likewise the actual star image is not my best, but I wanted to try to cut something together from the footage I had basically as a way of learning how to do it rather than waiting until everything was perfect. It’s a learning process, from shooting the video and capturing good audio, to editing the footage and cutting music in. Then there are screen recordings, time lapses, there’s just a lot to learn and hopefully each video will be another step along the learning curve.
