This effect has been popular in music videos since Skepta first used it in about 2019 on his album Ignorance is Bliss which was shot on an actual IR camera art directed by https://www.instagram.com/haiimmanu/ Ever since then this effect has been copied over and over again leading to the inspiration of this video by https://www.instagram.com/grotesk.group/ for German rapper Oddworld. That is an emulation that looks similar to IR without the quirks of an IR camera. This effect is completely procedural, meaning you can make changes to tweak it without baking in anything. You can get Resolve here though you need a Studio (paid) version to do this: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve

I felt stuck in my filmmaking career until a friend mentioned an ad agency looking for filmmakers. They wanted a spec commercial, so I jumped at the chance to show what I could do. I decided to make a spec ad for a Skoda, thinking it would impress the agency since they already work with that brand. Funding this project from my own pocket was a big deal for me, but I saw it as an investment in my future. I enlisted the help of two friends to bring my vision to life. We faced unexpected snow and technical glitches, but we pushed through. The video-shoot was challenging but fun, and we got some amazing footage. The final piece was something I was truly proud of, and it seemed the ad agency was impressed too. This project was a reminder of why I love filmmaking – for the chance to create something new and exciting. Enjoy!
