Shooting a Fitness Spec Commercial (BTS)
This is a BTS video for a recent spec film I made: https://youtu.be/o91_0Fsm0Ew As this shoot was all in ATL, I was left in a tough spot for gear. But fortunately, my good friends over at Bairn guided us in the right direction and was an amazing partner throughout this whole shoot. I am truly grateful for a rental house like them that I can trust and talk to at any moment. https://www.sharegrid.com/p/evans_nguyen Director/DP: @jordanadudek Co-DP/Cam Op: Jordan Finney ( @robertjordanfinney ) Shot on: Sony Venice 2 (6k); Dulens APO Mini Primes 00:00 Intro 02:35 Day One 07:42 Day Two 15:26 Day Three MB01LHPEJWLRJD6
Sony Venice | Fitness Film (Spec Commercial)
One of my childhood best friends, @samharte reached out to me to create a film for an upcoming bodybuilding show he had this past week. I decided to turn it into a fitness spec commercial. As this shoot was all in ATL, I was left in a tough spot for gear. But fortunately, my good friends over at Bairn guided us in the right direction and was an amazing partner throughout this whole shoot. If you think you’re wasting your life
Have you ever asked yourself if you're wasting your life? How do you know if you've wasted your life? I've wasted my life. Not all of it, but a lot of it, by chasing things that are "out there". I've always believed that there's more to life. And I still believe that to my core. But I've found it's not by seeking things or places, but by pursuing those who are with you, here and now. a Cinematic Running Commerical // New Balance // Ronin 4D 8k
New Balance and Grivet saw my previous spec work, and decided I could help them out on this promo. Alongside HyperFocus, they approached me to create a promo for a relay race in Memphis, TN, where you get to demo their new Rebel v4's, as well as earn a chance to win a pair of the new Rebel’s. I told them what I could do in the timeframe, and we decided to go for it! To be clear, I knew from the get-go that I wouldn’t be paid, and I wasn’t expecting to! I wanted to make this because I wanted to prove I could make this type of commercial. New Balance has since told me they will be sending me a pair of Rebel v4’s :) We created this in less than 24 hours, and I will post a breakdown video of how we did it! Please post any questions you have in the comments. Shot on the Ronin 4D 8k with Leica R primes. #cinematic #commercial #ronin4d

Empathy - Sony FX3 Cinematic
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 Run in Someone Else's Shoes. On December 2nd, 2023, over 20,000 people will run in the St Jude Marathon in Memphis, TN to support the future of childhood cancer research and treatment for over 400,000 kids around the world. This short film was created to inspire you to join and support the 20,000 runners by “Running in Someone Else’s Shoes”. You or your loved ones may not be directly affected by childhood cancer, but we are called to share each other’s burdens. By placing yourself in the shoes of someone who is affected by childhood cancer, you too will recognize the dire need for supporting future research and treatment. I am incredibly honored and proud to present this short film alongside HyperFocus, produced in collaboration with countless individuals who sacrificed their time, energy, and had to exercise incredible patience with me. a Cinematic Fitness Film | Sony FX3
A short documentary on my good friend, @samharte Like all of us, Sam dreams of doing something bigger than himself, but encounters the same fears and doubts that hold us back from even attempting to achieve our goals. I hope this short doc can serve as a motivation and inspiration to continue doing what you know you should be doing. Tamron 28-75 Cinematic | Sony FX3
I've used the Tamron 28-75 G2 for a few months, and I think it's the best value filmmaking lens you can buy for Sony E. Of course, this lens is designed for photographers first, but it still performs admirably for filmmaking. And it may be my favorite one-lens solution. Through the Tamron Lens Utility app, you can switch the lens to linear focus when manually focussing, which is a key component of a proper cinema lens. No, there aren't any hard stops when focussing, but the mechanics are smooth and consistent. The look of the Tamron 28-75 G2 is neutral with modern contrast. When wide open, the lens still has enough micro-contrast and sharpness for my taste. I usually dial down the contrast and sharpness in post, all with good results. At the end of the day, the best lens for me is the one that gets out of the way and allows me to capture what I need and when I need it. I've always preferred prime lenses, and I still want to reach for them first, but the ease of use and practicality of the Tamron has allowed me to get shots quicker than I have before, which is sometimes the most important thing for most shoots. I've learned that I can get the look I want through post and don't have to solely rely on lenses to provide the emotion I want. All footage was graded through Dehancer, with different looks and film emulations applied. In this video, I run through some cinematography video shooting tips. I hope to teach you how to recreate a rainy car scene from Ozark, at TV series from Netflix. If you want more in life | Sony FX3 Cinematic
If you want more in life, you're not alone. Maybe you've heard the saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side." It essentially means we will always want more, or being more specific, we will want what other people seem to have. But I'm tired of the jealousy, and I'm instead hoping to live by another saying, "Make the grass greener where you are." Shot on the Sony FX3, including the cinematic sequences. Filmmaking Won't Fulfill You | Sony FX3
In my pursuit of filmmaking, I've found the sober reality of still being empty. Maybe you've encountered that too. I don't think filmmaking is unique in that aspect, in fact, I think all careers will lead us to the same feeling of being empty. If you haven't experienced or heard this piece of advice yet, let me be the first to tell that you filmmaking won't fulfill you. The talking head was filmed with the Sony FX3 at 12800 ISO. With the short film parts filmed with the Red Komodo. Musicbed SyncID: MB01L9P6MVQRXLN

Maybe I’m Not Okay
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I wanted to share a short film that briefly covers the surface of a mental health battle I’ve struggled with. The inspiration for this film comes from the daily interactions I believe we all have. Nearly every, “Hey, how are ya?” is met with a, “I’m doing fine. And you?” All the while, a fair amount of us are not doing fine. For my own mental health, I largely ignored it for the vast majority of my life. It wasn’t an intentional decision, just more of something I picked up being around others. I saw other people smiling and waving, so I thought that was the thing to do. I never thought to ignore the emotions that were deeper, simply because not many people even acknowledged that deeper emotions existed. I don’t think we are intentionally hiding from people or our emotions, we just might not be allowing ourselves the time to analyze them. Not everyone you run into needs to know your every thought, nor should every person be trusted with that intimate knowledge. But I do think you owe it to yourself for you to know your own emotions. Awareness of where you are emotionally is definitely not some magic cure, but I think it’s the first step in the right direction. Talk with your people, your family, your community. You are cared for. You are loved. ✌🏻 Also, if this message resonated with you, and you don’t have people to reach out to, I am available and willing to listen. Big shoutout to my support system, which is far too large to name everyone. I truly don’t know where I would be without all of you.
