Ultimate Ears is a brand whose products and commercials are iconic. The poppy colours, the distinctive shape of their speakers, and the out and out fun of their video content is all instantly recognisable. With our spec commericial, Pause Record Films wanted to capture some of this winning formula and what better way to do that than through dance. Co-Directed by myself and Paul Hines we wanted to show off the key features of the UEBoom series: portability, durability, and excellent sound, all within a tight 30 second whirlwind of fun. We decided on a loose narrative following two dancers getting ready to meet up and dance, flying through a series of moments that would see the UEBoom speaker put through its paces. We shot on one of our RED Cinema Camera’s with our unique vintage Canon FD lenses to achieve the look. A 60 second commerical we produced for the Small Batch Rum Distillery Twisted Roots and their Rum Runner line of products. Solace is a short dance film featuring the amazing movements of Scottish-born, London-based dancer Rachel Laird. Our collaboration allowed me to experiment with some interesting lighting set ups and explore how to move the camera with the dancer. During lockdown I decided to make Spec Ad for the wonderful whisky brand The Ardmore. Their stellar design and copy, inspired me to create an Ad telling the story of a Distillery passionate about the place and people that help make their whisky. The double exposure cinematography helps to further this idea that every drop of Whisky holds within it a memory of the land it came from. Whilst the black and white colour scheme was chosen to fit with the beautiful monochromatic packaging, leaving the bold, gold lettering and eagle of the Ardmore logo as the only colour at the opening and close.
